Sometimes we unearth treasures at the end of a corridor, on the edge of a bench or between appointments. Whether fortuitous or forced, it’s always with great curiosity that The Eye of Jewelry dives into new jewelry legacies. Alessa, Dolce & Gabbana and Marcel 1907 are three good examples.

DOLCE & GABBANA

Better known for their floral dresses worn by the fabulous Monica Bellucci than their range of watches and jewelry, the Italian brand Dolce & Gabbana has grabbed attention away from some other brands with its jewelry designs. Because yes, they are also good at that !  D&G unveiled its fine jewelry collection inspired by baroque Italy in a flamboyant red velvet showcase adorned with flowers straight from the homeland. The use of certain cuts of gemstones ooze the opulence and the Italian Dolce Vita: amethysts, rhodolites and garnets paved with diamonds and white sapphires. Italian expertise and the baroque period are clear in the work that’s gone into the engraved, chiseled and openwork yellow gold. Cameos, glittering crucifixes and engraved medallions appear on charm necklaces. The names of every Dolce & Gabbana jewelry collection sounds like a story you want to hear. Between Sicily,  family – love – romance – Mamma – engagement – Barocco or primavera…all we have to do is now find out what it’s all about.

ALESSA JEWELRY

This fresh brand sprung from the love story and cultures shared by Alessandra Robles from Guatemala and Yuvraj Pahuja who grew up in Dubai. They met at the GIA and launched their modern yet contemporary fine jewelry brand in 2009. Some pieces feature their take on Stephen Webster’s rock chic and Lorenz Baumer’s daring style. You can adorn your wrist with a diamond cuff set on white gold with ultra graphic lines designing the shape of a triangle. Ear huggers and stackable rings are also part of the game as much as diamonds set on transparent fishing cord to let the sparkle shine on a bare skin.

MARCEL 1907

The woman behind the brand is as much a perfectionist as she is passionate. Aurore Guiot grew up in Belgium where she trained in Fine Jewelry at Holemans, an iconic brand in the field. After co-owning a shop selling a range of brands for 7 years, the young designer moved to Geneva and returned to her original passion: gemstones. She’s as smart as she is ingenious and realized that the cufflink sector for women was untapped. Marcel 1907 is comprised of a range of cufflinks made  with the same precision and expertise that go into fine jewelry. She embellishes her little pieces with baguette-cut diamonds, mother-of-pearl inlay, lapis cabochons and rubellites. Her cufflinks become like an evidence to adorn your white collar shirts.
