Second largest diamond ever discovered in Africa

Found in Karowe mine earlier this week by a small Canadian mine, the 1’111-carat stone becomes the second largest diamond ever found in Botswana.

On November 18th, 2015-  Lucara Diamond Corp– a new diamond producer based in Vancouver, Canada, discovered a 1’111 carat diamond – Type IIa quality.The 1’111 carat diamond measuring 65mm x 56mm x 40mm becomes the second largest diamond ever discovered in the world which originated from Karowe Mine in the South part of Lucara.

William Lamb, CEO of Lucara Diamond Corp admitted that the historical discovery of the gem puts Lucara and the Karowe mine amongst a select number of truly exceptional diamond producers.

He continues, “Our focus on mining the south lobe, which is delivering value beyond expectation, has been perfectly timed with the commissioning of our recent plant modifications, enabling the recovery of these large, high quality exceptional diamonds.”

After all, Botswana is the second country in the world producing diamonds after Russia!
