Elena Samuylova was born and raised in the heart of Russia, between Moscow and Vladivostok, in the middle of Trans-Siberian railway – Novosibirsk, the capital of Siberia.
For the first time she recognized her penchant for sewing during her ballet class: she helped costumiers repairing the dresses. Further she received from her mother the passion for fine art and classical literature. Like the paintings of Russian artists – Repin, Rokotov, Makovsky – with detailed descriptions of atmosphere and scenes of imperial Russia that profoundly affected her imagination. She was fascinated by precious textures, the style, the effect of the light on the objects, the balance of the shapes and colors.
After studying Design at the Novosibirsk State Academy of Architecture and Fine Arts. Elena began her career in advertising, at the same time working on various projects in the field of design and interior architecture. Taking advantage of a turning point in her career, she undertook a long journey around Europe and Asia that fed her sensitivity with fresh impressions. Slowly a new vision emerges, an old dream becomes a new ambition – creating jewelry. Elena then decides to take a course at the Russian Craft Academy in Moscow where she studied metalworking and gemology.
Elena’s jewels are unique handmade objects inspired by the braid technique called Soutache. The métier originated through various influences both Eastern and Western. First popular in France and Russia during the 18th century as ornamental embroidery, soutache-braid was later almost totally forgotten. It was rediscovered only recently by the work of the few passionate artists fascinated by the unique quality and beauty of this original technique. In order to give substance to her jeweler’s work, In 2014 Elena Samuylova creates NownessJewels brand. Every piece created in her atelier is a story of emotions, memories, impressions, an elegant melody tuned with love and lightness between modernity and the irreplaceable tradition.

Elle a reconnu pour la première fois son penchant pour la couture lors de ces cours de ballet : elle aidait les couturiers à réparer les robes. Elena a herité de sa maman la passion des beaux-arts et de la littérature. Comme les peintures des artistes Russes – Repin, Rokotov, Makovsky – une atmosphère de la Russie impériale avec des descriptions détaillées qui ont beaucoup affecté son imagination. Elle était fascinée par les textures, le style, l’effet de lumière sur les objets, l’équilibre des formes et des couleurs.

Elena a commencé sa carrière dans la publicité, tout en travaillant en parallèle sur d’autres projets de design et d’architecture d’intérieur. Profitant d’un tournant dans sa carrière, elle a entrepris un long voyage en Europe et en Asie qui a alimenté sa sensibilité avec de nouvelles impressions. Doucement une nouvelle vision émerge, un ancien rêve devient une nouvelle ambition – créer des bijoux. Elena décide de suivre une formation au “Russian Craft Academy” à Moscou où elle a étudié la métallurgie et la gemmologie.
Les bijoux de Elena sont uniques et faits main, inspirés par la technique de la tresse appelé « Soutache ». Le métier est né à travers diverses influences à la fois orientales et occidentales. Tout d’abord populaire en France et en Russie durant le 18ème siècle comme broderie ornementale, « soutache-tresse » a par la suite été presque complètement oublié. Il a été récemment redécouvert grâce au travail de quelques artistes passionnés et fascinés par la qualité unique ainsi que la beauté de cette technique originale. Afin de donner de la substance à ses bijoux, Elena Samuylova crée la marque NownessJewels en 2014. Chaque pièce créée dans son atelier est une histoire d’émotions, de souvenirs, d’impressions, une élégante mélodie accordée avec amour et légèreté entre modernité et tradition irremplaçable.
