Bvlgari’s headquarters are based in Roma where the High Jewelry collections are being made. Yet, most of its jewelry is manufactured in the Italian city of gold: Valenza. Indeed, the company inaugurated a 14,000-square meter site in March 2017 for this very purpose. The ‘made in Italy’ hallmark of the Bulgari operation is therefore just as important as ever in the modern day as it was in 1884 when the company was first founded.
The premises are the largest of their kind in Europe and are also referred to as The Glass House. One glance at the exterior of the Bvlgari Manufacture and the vast expanse of glass involved will reveal why. They are also home to the Bulgari Jewelry Academy, where young students will learn how fine jewelry is made for the Bvlgari collection. The prospect of learning just how the finest Bvlgari pieces are made is a rare opportunity for all those who are part of this academy, and will be in the future too.
Most of their core lines are now made in Valenza, which lies just to the south-west of Milan. This includes signature lines such as B.Zero1, the Serpenti range of necklaces, and the Divas’ Dream collection. Many other famous jewelry lines in the Bvlgari collection will also be made here. However, some elements of the Bvlgari range are made elsewhere, mostly in Italy. Each and every piece of high jewelry are made exclusively in Roma. The exception is the watch collection. Much of this collection is made in Switzerland by a Swiss subsidiary.
However, not all the pieces will come from the new Valenza manufacturing center. Some will continue to be produced at the Rome headquarters. There are specific exceptions to the scenario. For example, the unique pieces are all created in Rome, as are the high jewelry watches. Moreover, any one-of-a-kind items are designed and created in the Rome headquarters. The manufacturing center in Valenza is for the ranges that are familiar to many and are produced in larger numbers. The brand was born in Rome, and therefore it makes sense any individual or more special pieces in the Bvlgari collection would be born there too. That does not look set to change anytime soon.
