If Chanel was under the spotlight of the Place Vendome with their art installation “Les blés de Chanel”- Boucheron introduced the 26 Vendôme collection with summer wheat symbol paved with diamonds at the same time while La Nature de Chaumet re-invented their symbolic garden echoeing the Ceres, the agriculture goddess.
Full of symbolism in some extent, jewelry brands have used Nature in many ways and developed it as an important theme throughout their collections. By coincidence or not, 2016 is the year of the wheat where Chanel, Boucheron and Chaumet re-interpeted the sacred cereal in their own high-jewelry way. Each with their own reason, three brands have chosen to explore the same thematic as a tribute to the agriculture goddess Ceres, image of fertility and femininity
For centuries, wheat has always been a symbol of wealth, luck and prosperity. Considered to be the cereal of happiness and fertility, wheat embodies the circle of life with its seasons and harvests as an image of renewal. It is not very different from what we expect from jewelers when presenting twice a year their flabbergasting high jewelry collection. Starting all over again with a new theme, new story and new angle – jewelry brands must be on to the next harvest to seduce again…
Chanel decided to dedicate their new collection to wheat, naming the collection: Les Blés de Chanel. Gabrielle Chanel was born on August 19th, during the harvest feast. Wheat fields were her playground. And for her father wheat was a sign of good. Therefore, it was no surprise that the high jewelry collection presented in Coco Chanel’s personal suite at the Ritz was paying tribute to wheat. Les blés de Chanel comprise 62 unique pieces divided into four disctinct chapters.Nature has always been an inspiration at Boucheron. The 26 Vendôme high jewelry collection presented during the July Couture Week in Paris was another demonstration of the jeweler’s ability to create a question mark necklace shape set with 7 wheat brands fully paved with brilliant cut diamonds. Articulated as if they were floating, the Boucheron Summer Wheat open necklace show fluidity in movement as if each strand could be picked at a time.
