Ilona Orel is passionate about symbolism and ancient cultures, and imbues her collections with universal themes that have the good sense to speak to everyone. After taking inspiration from the theme of planet Earth and the protective eye, the designer turned her attention to the theme of Love as seen through the lens of the balance of opposites.
Symbolically, the subject is explored through Mars, represented by a circle surmounted by an arrow, and gentle Venus, a circle with a cross. Feminine and masculine come and go in infinite succession and complement each other in the harmonious ballet of this collection whose key word is fluidity. Long chains and two-tone necklaces glide over bare skin to end in the hollow of the breasts, while earrings cascade down and illuminate the nape of the neck. We love the decision to combine white and yellow gold to enhance the contrast of the chain work and add a touch of light.
Bearing witness to the love between Venus and Mars, the Akoya pearl lends a soft roundness to some of the pieces, such as this pair of graphic hoop earrings—just what we’re looking for in the new season. It’s a good call.
