Unconventional, innovative and elegant, that could sum up the designer’s signature. Melanie Georgacopoulos creates pearls jewelry like no one has before.
Born and raised in Athens to a Greek father and a French mother, Melanie Georgacopoulos is led by a passion for jewelry closely tied to her childhood influence. As a matter of fact, timeless jewelry pieces and ancient Greek symbols have always been an amazement for the designer and a source of inspiration in her early work.
She studied sculpture at the Edinburgh College of Art where she learned how to challenge forms, materials and aesthetic preconceptions before completing her degree with a master in jewelry at the Royal College of Art.
In London, under Antoine Sandoz, Georgacopoulos works as a freelance designer and develops her proper approach of jewelry while creating for small companies as well as internationally renowned brands. There, she starts giving a first expression to its signature trademark: capturing the inner quality of a stone in order to reinvest it with modern relevance. As a designer, her very big moment is the pearl encounter that she began to explore during her Master’s degree at the RCA.
Georgacopoulos has changed our perception of pearls: she cuts, slices, carves pearls like a sculptor, and never stop carrying on pushing the boundaries in the way of designing it. According to the jeweler, pearl-breaking is a sort of homage to this strong, resilient and iridescent material as a way to highlight the precious stone’s natural beauty and wearability.
It is this unique approach, Melanie Georgacopoulos was given the opportunity to showcase her pieces regularly during at fairs, exhibitions and galleries worldwide and develops high profile international collaborations.
Besides her own line, Georgacopoulos is the Head Designer of the exclusive line “M/G Tasaki” in partnership with the world renowned fine Japanese jeweler.
