When you purchase Tiffany & Co jewelry there is not a user guide provided with the do’s and don’t. Nevertheless, Tiffany jewelry isn’t any different from other high-end pieces of jewelry: they may need to be fixed after several months of usage, the silver jewelry will tarnish and diamond pieces need to be cleaned to keep their brilliance. Here are our answers to the most FAQ’s about Tiffany’s jewelry.
Will Tiffany clean your jewelry for free?
Technically, Tiffany& Co charges for cleaning their jewelry, but it is worth going into the store to politely ask if they will clean your item. For the most part, the sales associates will do the job for free. Most of the time, they will use an ultrasonic machine that gently makes your precious Tiffany jewelry vibrate into a cleaning solution. This will take off any dirt, lotion, or other unwanted materials. You will want to be sure to check that all stones are still in their settings, as on occasion some stones can come out due to the movements of the machine – however, if stones come out of their setting, it means that there is a high chance that your piece got hit several times … it rarely happens with Tiffany jewelry. The cleaning could also involve steam cleaning or polishing, depending on the item. Many gold, platinum and silver items will need to be polished to keep their shine. Most of the jewelry cleaning products, including an ultrasonic are easy to find if you’d like to have ways to clean your jewelry at home. A rather inexpensive and efficient method is to use gentle liquid soap and a toothbrush. Scrubbing your item, with extreme caution and care, can remove most unwanted dirt from your item. If you’d prefer to stick to the Tiffany & Co brand, they sell their own Jewelry Care Kit, which comes with a jewelry cleaning solution, a cloth, tweezers and a brush.
Can Tiffany & Co jewelry tarnish?
Silver jewelry will tarnish over time, and Tiffany Silver is no exception. Tarnishing is caused by a chemical reaction and often can be reversed. Tiffany & Co will use a silver cleaning cloth to clean your silver Tiffany items, but you can also purchase these at Tiffany locations, a local jeweler or even online. Tiffany even sells Tiffany Blue polishing mitts, to make it easier to clean your items! If your item has been tarnished for a while, you might need a polishing cream or spray to help aid in the cleaning. Tiffany also sells these products as part of their Silver Care Kit.Gold and platinum jewelry will not tarnish, but they could lose their shine. Having Tiffany polish these items, or even using a polishing cloth at home, is a good way to bring your items back to life.Diamonds and gemstones will not tarnish either, but they will get dirty due to dust, body lotion, hand cream and other day-to-day wear. They can lose their brilliance and shine when they are dirty. These items can go in an ultrasonic for cleaning, or a liquid soap and toothbrush scrub as mentioned earlier, will also do the trick.
Can Tiffany jewelry get wet i.e. necklaces?
Luckily (and probably part of why you purchased a Tiffany item!) Tiffany jewelry is made of high quality materials and craftsmanship. Tiffany & Co jewelry, even necklaces, can get wet. It is okay to wash your hands while wearing your rings or even shower in most Tiffany jewelry. Though, be sure that your items fit securely and don’t risk falling off when wet. For your information : precious metals and stone don’t react to liquids in general unless you pour them into acid !Silver jewelry can tarnish more due to prolonged water exposure, so be sure to have some of the cleaning cloths and supplies we mentioned earlier or be prepared to take it into your local Tiffany & Co store to get cleaned every so often. We’d suggest avoiding pools or other water with any chemicals in it, as this can also speed up the tarnishing of silver.
Will Tiffany & Co fix a broken bracelet?
Tiffany will mostly likely fix a broken bracelet, but conditions may apply. They would likely need a receipt or be able to pull up your purchase in their systems. If an item was purchased too long ago or from another retailer, they might not repair it or might charge you for it.It would also be dependent on the type of bracelet. Tiffany Mesh bracelets can be hard to repair as their material is so fragile and delicate. It is difficult to put these items back together without losing their integrity and shape. Tiffany Chain or Link Bracelets are usually easier to fix, as long as they have the parts in stock or it simply needs welding. If it is an item from a past collection, they may no longer have all the pieces needed in order to successfully repair your item.Though Tiffany & Co jewelry doesn’t come with a handbook on how to wear and care for you items, for the most part, they are helpful with any needs. It is always worth asking if they will clean or repair your items. Visit them in your local Tiffany Store, or even give them a call on their customer service line. You’ve purchased something that is meant to last, and they will do their best to maintain that.
