High jewelry: Chanel or the Camellia’s metamorphosis

Chanel Collier Rouge incandescent

The new high-jewelry collection from the renowned Parisian firm centre stages its founder, Gabrielle Chanel’s favorite flower, which it revisits with unprecedented slants.

The camellia, Chanel’s icon, takes the limelight once again through a collection of 50 one-of-a-kind, enigmatically-airy pieces. Going under the codename “1.5 Camélia”, 1 Camellia, 5 allures, the line captures the quintessence of the floral design to embrace its pure femininity.

The collection plays on material contrasts and scale, twisting and twining the Parisian firm’s emblem. Proposed in a chromatic palette of white, pink and red, the Camellia adorns gold, sculpted pink quartz, diamonds as well as pearls.

Here, Chanel tempts us with a range of fun-filled pieces, including 23 which are totally transformable. With an ingenious mechanism, the camellia can be removed to be worn as a brooch, a long necklace or as short choker-style. A myriad of slants which invite us to let our spontaneous inspiration flow free. Much more than just a jewel, the 2019-version camellia becomes an expression of style, of allure, in contrast to immutable accessories. A vision, a philosophy which would definitely have seduced Gabrielle Chanel.
