The Brazilian designer has made a Parisian appearance during Couture to unveil the latest addition to his jewelry line. From High Brilliant to Aerial, these new pieces stay true to his signature of sensual and laid-back jewelry.
The Eye of Jewelry: The last chapter of Surround appears to be an ode to colors, isn’t it?
Fernando Jorge: Exactly. The initial launch of Brilliant was in yellow gold, and the launch of Surround too, which was based on the idea of grounding one color to contrast with the diamonds. Now, we are doing a new version of Surround with fresh colors. We have moonstones, Paraiba tourmalines, chrysoprase, labradorite and lapis to create a vivid color palette. There is a story here in Surround with mother of pearls, which leads into Brilliant in white gold, which I have not made before, only for one or two clients that requested.
THEIOF: It also the first time you are introducing black jewelry?
FJ: This choice has been made to complete the yellow gold look, the original colors of Surround. There are some new pieces like the cluster ring horn. The ring is made of horn to keep organic materials from our living origin. It is a black piece of jewelry but not like black onyx. It’s a black warm combined with rose gold and brown diamonds.
THEIOF: Surround isn’t the only line who comes back with a new look, Brilliant has been upgraded too?
FJ: For Brilliant, I designed classic pieces, the ones that are land themselves for bridal, for gift. I have noticed on the clients that responded to this collection, that sometimes they wanted something more substantial in terms of diamond. That’s why I have created High Brilliant, it’s a continuous of Brilliant that brings bigger stones, like gems of 2,5 carats. And it’s a just a beginning!
THEIOF: You are also celebrating the launch of Aerial. What is the collection inspired of?
FJ: With this line, I have made another exercise, based on the fact that Brilliant is more evening, even to people who likes to allow diamonds during the day. It’s more a diamond heavy look while Surround has a lot of colors and textures. I wanted to do a collection that is light, casual, fun, airy. The name of the collection is Aerial because there is a take on aerial acrobatics, for instance when they do trapeze. It completes the trilogy and suits together. It explores the concept of the perfect circle and all its variations. It’s for me like a way to rack them up before I move on.
THEIOF: This means that next fall will be a new milestone for your brand?
FJ: (Laughing) Yes definitely. Let’s meet up this fall for our next big thing!
