Hublot is part of the very few names within the watch industry that has managed to end 2016 brilliantly. Despite the depressing atmosphere the watch industry has been suffering from for the past few months, the Swiss manufacture keeps on surprising its clientele.
Amongst their 78 boutiques worldwide, Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot has chosen their Zermatt location to unveil right before Christmas, their latest capsule collection : the Big Bang Sugar Skull, in collaboration with AK SKI ; a limited edition of 50 pieces available in Blue Cobalt for men and Hot Pink for women.
According to Ricardo Guadalupe, Hublot has managed to go even further in the concept of making a ski thanks to Francesca and Marco Kuonen, founders of AK Skis who have been perpetrating the vision and passion their father taught them.
As a matter of fact, it was perfectly natural to Francesca, 34 – who personally owned a Big Bang Black Skull – to suggest a partnership to the brand. Having the same vision and passion for the art of fusion, only she and her motivation convinced the Hublot CEO to jump in this adventure.
« They came to us claiming that at AK skis they were doing the same art of fusion in their world like what we were doing at Hublot on watches by doing a fusion with materials in creating crazy and disruptive products » Guadalupe recalls, « We simply said yes ! Let’s do something together, believing in their energy. »
The idea was to base the collaboration on a Hublot model Francesca owned. For women, it resulted in a 41-mm Big Bang Sugar Skull Hot Pink with silk organza dial embroidery developed by Bishoff in their ateliers based in Saint Gall. On the dial, layered sheets of fiber printed with transparent resin are affixed onto a base of carbon fabric. A process that grips the embroidery so as to give it an illusion of depth and the finesse necessary for it to be housed within the heart of the dial. A limited edition of 50 pieces coming with a matching pair of black and pink AK Skis specially made for Hublot.
For men, the Big Bang Sugar Skull Blue Cobalt is machined into a 44-mm diameter case in matt black ceramic, where the emblematic skull is drawn in midnight blue on the skeleton dial. A limited edition of 50 pieces coming with a matching pair of black and blue AK Skis specially made for Hublot.
