The look

A cult design from Cartier watchmaking, the Tank cintrée is celebrating its 100th birthday this year. To mark the occasion, Cartier is reissuing 150 numbered examples of the watchmaking icon (all of which were pre-sold before their launch). Since its launch in 1921, the Tank cintrée has seduced with its timeless elegance with a modern twist. A variation of the Tank, the watch’s waist is stretched to arch elegantly. A characteristic shape, which allows it to naturally follow the shape of the wrist. While the thickness of the case has been modified, the stylistic codes have remained unchanged: iron track, Roman numerals, apple hands… The Tank cintrée cuvée 2021 is a sure value.

From the Gem Dior collection created by Victoire de Castellane, this jewel-watch attracts all eyes with the atypical geometry of its design. A piece of character that gave the Dior workshops a hard time, so complex is its expression. Inspired by the design of rough tourmaline slices, the case upsets an octagon that is a little too wise to create contrast. The bracelet, on the other hand, succeeds in being fully articulated and embracing the wrist with an asymmetrical line that does without the clasp, which is considered far too conventional. Available in seven versions, including a majestic one made of ornamental gems (malachite, lapis lazuli, carnelian, pink opal, tiger’s eye), the Dior Gem puts on a show.

The mechanics

In terms of performance, the match between the two Ladies continues. The Tank is equipped with a hand-wound Manufacture movement, the 9780 MC caliber, in the purest tradition of Cartier’s watchmaking expertise.

At Dior, the new icon opts for a quartz movement, offering water resistance to 30 meters.

The verdict

At first sight, everything opposes them and yet, these two watches are aimed at a public of aesthetes. The supporters of a conventional beauty will be more sensitive to the Tank cintrée, whose limited reissue of 150 pieces will further increase its value.

As for the Gem Dior, it has created a buzz since its release, becoming one of the most desirable pieces of the moment in a few weeks. A piece of character that has not finished seducing fans in search of daring pieces.
